Yamaha serial numbers use a lookup table
The first three characters identify a series, and the following digits identify a vehicle within it. Enter both parts. Six- and seven-digit numbers are accepted because the bulletin adds a leading zero to many older serials.
For example, JN6-200101 matches Yamaha’s printed 1998 G16A starting PID (written JN6-0200101). JW8-250000 lies between the 2012 mid-year revision and the 2013 start, so the result retains that mid-year distinction.
Coverage and uncertainty
The lookup uses the G-series, Drive and Drive2 fleet/PTV tables on pages 1–6 of Yamaha bulletin GC2018-005. It does not cover all Yamaha vehicles or newer model years. Utility and Concierge-specific tables are excluded; a shared prefix may identify only the broad family.
Between successive starting numbers, the result names the listed model year and the method. Above the final starting number, it shows the last table entry but does not assign an exact year without a published end. Exact starting-number matches can still be identified.
The J38 table is not chronological by number. J0C has a conflicting 2018 boundary, and JC0/JC1 are shared by variants with different starts. Those prefixes return a year only inside an explicitly published range checked here. Otherwise the tool asks for dealer confirmation.
Supported prefixes
These prefixes occur in the source data. Presence here does not mean every number with that prefix can be dated.

Why do some results link to a recall notice?
CPSC’s Yamaha notice 19-701 gives explicit model-year intervals for certain 2016–2018 carts. Those bounded intervals help identify a year; they are not a complete production list. Matching results link to the notice and advise checking repair status with Yamaha. An unmatched result is not proof that a cart has no recalls.
Where do I find the Yamaha PID?
Location changes with the model. Check the frame under the seat or at the rear of the cart, and use the diagrams in the linked manufacturer bulletin to locate the chassis label. An engine or controller number cannot replace the PID.
Can this date a newer Drive2?
Not beyond the verified entries through 2018. A Yamaha dealer can look up the complete PID and model code. The tool does not extrapolate a 2018 row into later years or turn the first digit into an assumed date.
